Biography

Dr Angela Farrell is currently Course Director of the International Structured PhD AHSS Programme at the University of Limerick, Course Director of the Summer Institute Programme for UL Global Exchange, Erasmus Coordinator TESOL/Linguistics, External Examiner at the University of Ulster. She has taught on a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes for the past fifteen years. Her teaching and research interest are in the following areas: applied corpus linguistics, L2 teacher education, TESOL and EAL/ ESOL pedagogy, reflective practice, discourse analysis, sociolinguistics (language beliefs and language variation).

She is a member of the following research groups and clusters: CALS (Centre for Applied Language Studies), IVACS (Inter-Varietal Corpus Studies), BAAL (British Association of Applied linguistics - (EAL SIG), and IRAAL (Irish Association for Applied Linguistics). She has published in the areas of applied corpus linguistics, TESOL teacher education, EAL provision in the Irish post-primary context, reflective practice and TESOL pedagogy.

Her PhD research was multi-disciplinary and explored changing target models of English in the TESOL context drawing on a corpus-based methodology and DA frameworks from sociolinguistics, pragmatics and SLA. She teaches on MA programmes (TESOL/Applied Linguistics) and PhD programmes (Structured PhD in TESOL/Structured PhD AHSS) at the University of Limerick for the past fifteen years and has been a TP supervisor for student teachers on teaching practicum in the post-primary context. Angela supervises PhD, MA, and FYP research.
