Biography

I received my doctorate from University College Cork in 2006. My research centred on the 34 late-medieval manuscripts containing the text known as the Wise Book of Philosophy and Astronomy, and was funded by an Arts Faculty fellowship. Subsequently I held two postdoctoral fellowships: I was Irish Research Council / Marie Curie CARA Postdoctoral Fellow (2010-13) at Queen Mary, University of London, as well as NUI Postdoctoral Fellow (2007-09) at UCC. I also held the positions of lecturer in Medieval & Renaissance Literature at UCC (2006-07) and Teaching Fellow in English at the University of Bristol (2013-14). I joined the Univeristy of Limerick as a Lecturer in Early Modern Literature in 2015.

My research interests include: late medieval & early modern manuscript/print culture; instructional and scientific cultures; theories of reading & reception; medieval and early modern drama; early modern Irish literature; outlaw studies; digital humanities; 19th century book collecting and sales; medievalisms; the fiction of Anthony Burgess.

I am a member of the executive committee of the Centre for Early Modern Studies (UL/MICL): https://emslimerick.wordpress.com and I am on the executive committee of the Irish Renaissance Seminar. I am also involved in the production of The Ogham Stone, UL's literary journal: https://theoghamstoneul.com.

Activities: Editor of Cuttings, the bi-monthly newsletter of the Forum for Medieval and Renaissance Studies in Ireland; Section editor for Manuscripts and Textual Studies, The Year's Work in English Studies (Oxford University Press); Secretary, Early Book Society. Member of review board, Aigne (UCC's Graduate Journal). Reader for The Mediaeval Journal. Member of advisory board, Bulletin of the International Association for Robin Hood Studies.
