Biography

John Lannon has taught at a number of universities in Europe, Africa and Asia before joining the Centre for Project Management. He has also worked in the Information Technology sector as a project manager and a systems designer and developer. He holds a bachelor’s degree in electronic engineering, and an MA in peace and development studies. In 2011 he was awarded a PhD for his work on information management in non-governmental organisations (NGOs).

John’s research is primarily focused on organisational practices and forms of organising in the fields of international development, human rights promotion and protection, and humanitarian assistance. In that capacity he works with international NGOs and other civil society actors to explore knowledge sharing practices and innovative uses of information communication technologies.

Prior to that, John spent over 15 years working in the software industry, primarily in the telecommunications and enterprise solutions sectors. He worked as a systems designer, taking a technical leadership role on a number of projects. He also worked as both a project and development group manager. During that time he managed several large Research and Development projects primarily related to software infrastructure and applications design. He also oversaw the delivery of bespoke customer solutions in Europe, the US, and the Middle East.

Research Interests

John's research covers project and knowledge management in the non-profit sector, with particular emphasis on international development, human rights promotion and protection, and humanitarian assistance.  Much of this work takes a critical perspective on projects and knowledge as practice, and on projects as a form of organising to achieve social, environmental or political change.
