Dr. Kevin Burke was appointed to a Lectureship in Statistics at the University of Limerick in 2015.

Kevin has recently been appointed as the director of the Industrial Mathematics Unit at MACSI, UL where he has instated and fostered several industrial collaborations including; National Vehicle Distribution, DePuy Synthes, Vistakon and Teva.

Research Interests

Dr. Kevin Burke research interests lies in the area of survival analysis which  is the statistical analysis of time-to-event data, i.e., where the response is the time until some event occurs. In a medical setting (where survival analysis finds its main application) the event under study may be death of a patient due to a disease (e.g., cancer, heart disease, Alzheimer’s disease) or the occurrence of some other health-related event (e.g., seizure, fall of elderly individual, successful pregnancy). Thus, the purpose of survival analysis is to understand the mechanisms which influence the hazard (or risk) of such events occurring.

As Director of MACSI's Industrial Mathematics Unit Kevin is also interested in a wide variety of statistical research problems that arise in industry.
