Biography

Máiréad Moriarty is a Senior Lecturer in Applied Linguistics. Her research focuses on the relationship between language and society with a particular focus on the representation of language and language varieties in the media and in the study of minority language policy and planning. She has published widely in these fields. Some of her more recent publications a monograph entitled 'Globalizing language policy and planning: An Irish language perspective' published by Palgrave in 2015 and articles in key academic journals including The International Journal of the Sociology of Language, Language, Curriculum and Culture and the International Journal of Bilingualism.

Teaching Interests

Mairead Moriarty's teaching interests lie in the broad field of a Applied Linguistics. Mairead has a keen interest in teaching aspects of linguistics including phonetics and phonology, language systems and language acquisitions. Mairead also teaches aspects of sociolinguistis and draws largely on the media as a resource. Mairead also teaches aspects of cultural studies.
