In this chapter we report on the background and context for science and mathematics teaching in Ireland during the lifetime of the GIMMS study, 2006-2009. We report on this national case study, outlining the data collection and analysis procedures, and the findings that emerged from this case study GIMMS Ireland. Finally we discuss some implications for policymakers, teacher educators, school leadership and teachers alike in this regard.
