The Visiting Specialist programme within Clackmannanshire, Scotland, provided a model of collaboration between primary and secondary schools in the provision of modern languages to primary school pupils. On the programme, three Visiting Specialists (VS) were appointed with the task of supporting MLPS in the Council's primary schools. 16 primary schools elected to participate in the programme. This evaluation study carried out by researchers at Scottish CILT explored the perceptions of key professional stakeholders in the Visiting Specialist programme within Clackmannanshire, i.e. primary school teachers and head-teachers, visiting specialists, principal teachers of modern languages in the three secondary schools and senior management in the three secondary schools. The response rate was 66% and there were returns from all 16 primary schools. The study found that the model was deemed successful by all categories of stakeholders and outlined a number of considerations for the future implementation of the model in Clackmannanshire and other education authorities in Scotland.
