This article, in the Irish language, outlines approaches to the study of dress traditions in the Irish context. The various methodologies are discussed, including the study of artefacts, visual media and ethnographic fieldwork in communities. The social and cultural relevance of the study of dress is also explored, and its connections to the world of work and social organization examined, with examples from communities studied by the author. Questions of culture and aesthetics - with particular relevance to gender - are also explored with particular reference to Irish dress traditions in the twentieth century.
