This article discusses how new forms of working relationships, in particular the type introduced by the phenomenon of internet based work-sharing, might be categorised. The issue has come to the forefront with the proliferation of innovative work-sharing methods forming what has become known as the collaborative economy. The question addressed in this article is how such workers would be classified under the current approaches in California and Ireland, as well as the European Commission approach to such working relationships.
