Chrome Attic is an ongoing project of Yonit Kosovske's research, performance, and artistic exploration into the extreme contrasts of chromaticism and chiaroscuro, the dramatic use of light and shadow, as found in both music and visual art—including painting, film, and photography. Yonit’s focus on early 17th century keyboard repertoire from Rome and Naples draws connections to madrigal compositions by Gesualdo and D’India, and to parallels expressed in paintings by Caravaggio and Artemisia Gentileschi. Yonit discusses split-keyed chromatic keyboards and the issues we face as performers as regards tuning and temperament.
