The use of real-time feedback combining concurrent self-observation with real-time expert modelling (REM) was assessed in accelerating skill acquisition in rowing. The feedback combines a live video feed (concurrent self-observation) with a pre-recorded video of an expert (REM). Sixteen volunteers participated (20.8±1.7 years; Experimental group (E; n=8); Control group (C; n=8)). Technique (stroke length &stroke rate) and rowing outcome (overall distance &average power) data were obtained pre and post a seven-week intervention. Results illustrate significant changes in all parameters for Group E. Group C demonstrated significant changes in technique and no significant differences in outcome. The results indicate combining concurrent self-observation with REM has a positive effect on accelerating skill acquisition by enhancing outcome.
