This research addresses the lack of research on the overall strategic orientation and practices of strategy in established small firms, more particularly within a sample of female-owned enterprises. this study ascertains if differences in strategic choices exist with respect to firm and characteristics of female entrepreneurs. The analysis of the strategic orientation and behaviour in female enterprises is undertaken by the application of the Miles and Snow (1978) strategic framework given its use and applicability for the SME context (Aragón-Sánchez and Sánchez-Marín 2003; O’Regan and Ghobadian 2006; Avci et al., 2011; Azyabi et al., 2012). Endorsement of the use of this typology is based on its three commonly transferable dimensions. The study applies a quantitative methodology.
